E-Scooter Injuries Lawyer
Electronic scooters, also known as e-scooters, recently became available in cities throughout the United States. For those living in congested urban areas, like New York, e-scooters are an economical, practical means of transportation. Unfortunately, if an individual riding an e-scooter is involved in a crash, his or her injuries are often serious and even life-threatening.
E-scooters are intended to be driven on roadways, not sidewalks. This means e-scooter riders are sharing the road with motor vehicles. Local officials and safety advocates are still exploring the safety implications of e-scooter usage. In an article published by CNN, Dr. Oscar Guillamondegui, trauma ICU medical director at Vanderbilt University Medical Center, stated the following “We’re seeing five to six minor injuries a week, almost one a day — hand and arm fractures, broken bones and facial injuries, such as scrapes and bumps and fractures.” The Doctor continued, “Approximately one to two major traumatic brain injuries a month are admitted to the trauma center…”. Dr. Guillamondegui went on to cite the lack of helmets as the top cause of head injuries.
While we whole-heartedly agree that helmet usage is extremely important, as injury attorneys we know first-hand that even when we take all necessary safety precautions, we are still at risk for serious injury. Reckless individuals place innocent people in danger every day. Driving distracted, driving under the influence, and speeding are just a few examples of reckless behavior directly linked to serious injury.
