$525,000 SETTLEMENT: NYC Housing Defective Stairs

After visiting her Mom in a NYCHA apartment building, our client was going down the interior stairs to leave the building when her sneaker got caught by the metal lip that was sticking up on the edge of the cement step. We obtained proof that the dangerous and hazardous condition existed for over 5 years and that NYCHA knew about it and failed to fix the defect. Our client was employed as a home health aide, so her broken ankle that required emergency surgery her unable to work. The City ultimately offered $525,000 to settle the case rather than face a Brooklyn jury.

The case was handled by Partners David Akerib and Linda Armatti.
